Bismillah

I went back to read my old writing rants, back when I just became a new mom.

This was what I wrote,“...I am tired and I feel like crap.”

A few years later, after getting the hang of this motherhood thing, I must say that I have fewer mental breakdowns alhamdulillah.

What has helped me really? Well, a lot of factors. But the most important thing is to ask for help. Because we are in so, so much need of help.

What I mean by help is not from anyone else but Allah.

Take a moment to read these gems below and reflect.

Anas ibn Malik (raḍiyAllāhu ‘anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

Let one of you ask his Lord concerning his needs, all of them, until he asks Him even for a shoestring when it breaks.

[Source: Sunan al-Tirmidhi‌ 3973

Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to as-Suyuti (Rahimahullah)]

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (rahimahullah):

Some of the Salaf would ask Allāh for everything, even when they needed salt for dough and grass for the sheep.

[Jami’ Uloom al-Hikam, 286]

The pious who has preceded us would seek help from Allah even for the smallest of things.

Imagine yourself cooking, and before reaching for salt, you made do'a. SubhanAllah, what effect will that have on your relationship with Allah.

I bet that the next time your little one is having a meltdown, your instant response would be to make do'a instead of snapping at them and going completely crazy.

It’s time that we reflect on ourselves with regards to our daily affairs with our kids.

Have we ever thought of making du’a when we find ourselves struggling with parenting?

Just recently, I found myself in a predicament with my first born. It was tough. It took me a while to remember that it is only Allah that I should ask help from.

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيْثُ، وَأَصْلِحْ لِيْ شَأْنِيْ كُلَّهُ وَلاَ تَكِلْنِيْ إِلَى نَفْسِيْ طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ

O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining and All-Sustaining, by Your mercy I seek help; rectify all my affairs and do not leave me in charge of my affairs even for the blink of an eye.

(Shaykh al-Albani: as-Silsilah as-Sahihah (no. 227): its isnad is hasan.)

It is not merely about our knowledge of parenting or the lack thereof. We can read a ton of books and perhaps even find them effective.

But remember, none of them will work without the permission of Allah.

And isn't it Allah who has guided us to the knowledge in the first place?

So let’s humble ourselves and keep on making do’a in every part of our affairs.
